Housemark is a home maintenance app for iPhone, iPad and Android made by Meyer App Studio, LLC. It keeps a record of your home's equipment, maintenance schedule, shut-off locations and paint colors, and can export that record as a Home Passport. This policy explains what the app does with your information. The short version: everything you enter stays on your devices and, if you use iCloud sync, in your own private iCloud. We never receive it. On Android, a Google component used to read rating labels sends Google its own diagnostics, described under On Android.
None. Housemark has no accounts, no sign-in, no advertising, no third-party analytics and no tracking. We have no server that receives your homes, equipment, photos, schedules or notes, and we cannot see anything you store in iCloud.
Your homes, equipment details (brand, model, serial number, dates, warranty), maintenance tasks and history, shut-off locations, paint colors and the photos you add are stored in Housemark's private storage on your device. Like other app data, they are included in your device's own iCloud or computer backup if you have backups turned on. Deleting a home deletes its records and photos. If iCloud sync is off, deleting the app deletes everything.
The app also keeps a small local log of which features are used, such as when a label is scanned or a task is completed, to help diagnose problems. It stays on your device and is not sent to us or anyone else.
Starting with Housemark 1.1, the app can sync your homes, equipment, maintenance tasks and history, shut-off locations, paint colors and photos to the other iPhones and iPads signed in to your Apple Account. It uses Apple's CloudKit to store them in the private database of your own iCloud account. Only your devices, signed in to your Apple Account, can read it. We have no access to it, and it is not shared with anyone else.
Sync is on when you are signed in to iCloud. You can turn it off in Housemark's Settings under iCloud, and the change applies the next time you open the app. With sync off, or without an iCloud account, everything stays on the device you're using.
Your synced data counts toward your iCloud storage and is kept to Apple's iCloud terms and privacy practices. Deleting a home while sync is on removes it from iCloud and from your other devices. Deleting the app from one device does not remove the copy in iCloud or on your other devices.
Housemark uses the camera only when you choose to photograph an appliance's rating label or a shut-off valve. When you pick an existing photo, the system photo picker gives Housemark only the image you select, not access to your library.
Reading the text on a rating label happens entirely on your device using Apple's built-in text recognition. The photo and the text are never uploaded.
If you allow notifications, Housemark schedules reminders for maintenance tasks and expiring warranties on your device. They are local notifications, not push notifications, and no information leaves your device to create them.
Some buttons open a web page in your browser: a search for your appliance's owner's manual or warranty registration, and searches for replacement parts at retailers such as Amazon and The Home Depot. Opening one of these sends that search, which may include the brand and model you entered, to the website you are visiting, and that site's own privacy policy applies. Shopping links may include an affiliate code so that Meyer App Studio can earn a commission on purchases, at no extra cost to you. We do not receive any information about what you buy.
With Housemark Pro you can export a Home Passport: a PDF and a transfer file containing that home's records and photos. The export is created on your device and handed to the iOS share sheet. Where you send it, whether email, Messages, AirDrop or Files, is your choice. Housemark does not keep or send a copy anywhere. Anyone who receives a Passport file can read everything in it, including serial numbers and shut-off photos, so share it only with people you intend to, such as the buyer of your home.
Importing a Passport someone gives you reads that file on your device and creates the home in your Housemark.
Housemark Pro is a one-time purchase sold through Apple's In-App Purchase system. Apple handles the payment. We never see your card, your Apple Account or your billing details. To check whether you have Pro, the app asks the App Store for your purchase status on your device.
The Android version works the same way, with these differences:
Housemark is a general-purpose home management tool and is not directed at children under 13.
Housemark is offered under our terms of use.
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with a new effective date.
