LocalStudio

LocalStudio Support

A private media studio. Everything runs on your iPhone or iPad, and nothing is uploaded.

Getting started

Tap Photos or Files on the Studio screen to bring in a video, a voice memo or other audio file, or a photo. LocalStudio copies it into its own private storage and opens a project with the tools that fit that kind of media.

LocalStudio requires iOS 26 or later.

Episode Pack

Tap Episode Pack at the top of an audio or video project to make everything at once: the transcript (if needed), a clean episode with fillers cut and the voice enhanced, a Post Kit, a cover, and vertical clips from your best moments (video only). Turn off any step you don’t want. If a step can’t run, for example Post Kit on a device without Apple Intelligence, it’s skipped and the rest still finish.

Shortcuts, Siri and sending files

LocalStudio adds two actions to the Shortcuts app and Siri: Transcribe with LocalStudio and Make an Episode Pack. Each opens the recording you give it in a new project and starts right away. You can also add them to the share sheet by building a shortcut with “Show in Share Sheet” turned on.

From Voice Memos, Files, Mail and other apps, share a video, audio file or photo and choose LocalStudio (you may need to tap More). It opens as a new project. For photos and videos in your Photos library, use the Recent strip or the Photos button in LocalStudio.

The tools

Everything you make appears under Exports in the project. Tap to preview, or save to Photos or share from there.

Free and Pro

Transcription and plain-text transcripts are free. Every other tool is part of LocalStudio Pro. Your first 3 Pro exports are free, shared across all the tools, and a whole Episode Pack counts as one. Free vertical clips carry a small “Made with LocalStudio” tag, which Pro removes. Pro also unlocks SRT and VTT caption files.

Pro is available as an annual or monthly subscription, each with a free first week for new subscribers, or as a one-time lifetime purchase that includes Family Sharing. Prices are shown in the app in your local currency.

Restore purchases, in Settings or at the bottom of the Pro screen, brings Pro back on a new or reset device signed in to the same Apple Account.

To cancel a subscription, open Settings on your device, tap your name, then Subscriptions, and choose LocalStudio. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date to avoid being charged for the next period. You keep Pro until the period you paid for ends. Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Common questions

Transcription says a language model is downloading. The first time you use a language, iOS fetches its speech model from Apple. It is a one-time download and only happens with a connection. Your audio is not part of it.

Transcription says it isn’t available on this device. On-device transcription depends on the speech models Apple supports for your device and language. Try choosing a different spoken language in Settings, and make sure iOS is up to date.

Translation asks to download a language. The first time you translate into a language, iOS downloads it from Apple. After that it works offline. Your transcript is not part of the download.

Post Kit says it needs Apple Intelligence. Post Kit uses Apple’s on-device language model. Turn on Apple Intelligence in Settings › Apple Intelligence & Siri on a device that supports it.

Why are my clips titled differently on another device? On devices with Apple Intelligence turned on, LocalStudio uses Apple’s on-device model to choose moments and write titles. Other devices use LocalStudio’s built-in highlight finder. Both run entirely on your device.

Upscaling says my photo is already high resolution. Upscale 2× works on photos up to 12 megapixels. Larger photos already have enough pixels, so the app doesn’t upscale them.

Can I keep rendering in another app? Rendering continues briefly in the background, but long videos finish fastest with LocalStudio open.

Where are my projects stored, and are they backed up? Only on your device, in LocalStudio’s private storage. They are deliberately left out of iCloud Backup so your media never leaves the device. Save the exports you want to keep to Photos or Files.

How do I free up space? Open a project’s menu and choose Delete project, or press and hold a single export to delete it. Settings shows how much space LocalStudio is using.
